a few weeks after the en ka fair, there was town day. which is awesome mostly because you can sit in a fire truck, digger, snow plow, and whatever else they rounded up for the day. the rest is booths advertising for local businesses and giving away random free stuff that you don't really want. plus there a couple food booths. there are a couple other events associated with town day i think...pancake breakfasts and fishing derbies and fireworks and walk/runs...but for us it was mostly about sitting in vehicles. and the boys loved it.

the annual en ka fair happened several weeks ago, so we went. obviously we would not miss a chance to eat fried dough. which we did. and the boys rode a couple rides and played the fishing game and won cheap plastic swords. pretty much everything you could want in a trip to the fair.

yeah, i went on a quick little trip...by myself! brian had a vacation week...but the boys had school so we weren't going to go anywhere. then i realized that (1) i have a really good friend in dc, (2) it is cheap to fly to dc, (3) brian could manage the boys solo. so i called up rachel and thankfully she was happy to have me crash with her for a few days and give me a personal tour of her lovely town. it was a great trip. we packed a lot of fun into the two and a half days i was there! at this point i'm not sure i remember everything we did...but it was great. i didn't take many pictures...to busy talking and just generally enjoying myself. but here's a smattering...
the waterfront in downtown alexandria.
art installation/tunnel between museums.
crazy cool folk art. its the throne of god...made by a janitor of recycled objects and lots of foil.
delicious treat...italian ice/frozen custard.
my lovely host and tour guide. who maybe got in trouble for sitting on the stoop immediately after this...
pretty row houses.
boat in the canal.
pretty gold dome.
gate in "chinatown"...there's this gate, and the restaurants and shops have their names in chinese characters as well as english...and that's about it. it's hilarious.
thanks again rachel! and brian too!

a few weeks ago i took tate and beck to see peter pan. it was awesome. they loved it. at the end i asked them each what their favorite part was, and they both said "the whole thing!" and beck asked if we could go to more plays. i would love to take them to plays all the time...if only schedules and funds would allow. isn't the theater cool? i'm not sure how old it is, but it was fancy and had an elevator that was hand operated. i thought the boys would have been more excited about that elevator but i guess it freaked them out a bit...they wanted to take the stairs when we went back down. oh, and traffic! ugh. we left an hour before showtime and took our seats about two minutes before the curtain went up. thank goodness we didn't leave a moment later. such a fun night, and it was cool to do something with just the big boys...need to do that more often.

we did lots of fun things over spring break. the science museum, both zoos, the library, playing outside, the children's museum...but apparently i only took pictures at the children's museum.
driving a digger. heaven.
operating the car lift.
we discovered a new area...with real tools!
and now a long series of wells using a screwdriver while wearing pink safety googles. because it was the cutest thing ever.
